Audra N. Washington

With more than 15+ years in the music industry, Audra N. Washington is a true model of executives who have made an impact in entertainment. Washington’s career began in 1991 when she started as an Administrative Assistant for ASCAP’s Membership Department (the American Society of Composers, Authors & Publishers), one of the world’s largest Performing Rights Organizations. Within a year at ASCAP, Audra was promoted to Writer Relations Representative of Membership – East Coast. In this position, she was responsible for recruiting songwriters, producers and artist to ASCAP for the protection of their performance royalties. Some of the megastars signed to ASCAP under Washington’s tutelage include Sean “P-Diddy” Combs, Mary J. Blige, Alicia Keyes, Missy Elliott, Outkast and the late Notorious BIG just to name a few. Not only did Audra recruit new writers to the repertoire, but she also developed close relationships with pioneer songwriters with extensive revenue earning music catalogs.

It was during her tenure at ASCAP that Audra caught the attention of EMI Music Publishing and soon left ASCAP to become the Creative Director EMI-Jobete Music Publishing. As Creative Director EMI-Jobete, Washington oversaw the artistic use of the entire Jobete Catalog (the music publishing entity of Motown Records). Her conversations with Motown legends Stevie Wonder, Suzanne dePasse, Berry Gordy and various Jobete writers empowered Washington to become a pivotal force at EMI. Washington’s first creative concept and execution for Motown/Jobete was the 32nd NFL Super Bowl Half-Time Show in 1998 celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Motown Records. Among the creation of Motown tributes, CD anniversary box sets and arranging musical collaborations with seasoned Jobete writers/producers, Audra was also responsible for the acquisition and development of new songwriters to EMI’s writer roster.

In 2001, Ms. Washington created The Sable Group; a creative music solution company that created synergy and connected the entertainment and corporate industries via corporate sponsorships, partnerships, product placement and special events. Some of her clients included Warner Chappell Music (Warner Music Group), the R&B Foundation, AUDI, NABOB (The National Association of Black Owned Broadcasters) and DeSane & Associates.

In 2005, Ms. Washington dissolved The Sable Group and relocated to Charlotte, NC with her daughter Sierra and canine child Miss Savannah from New York City and held marketing positions with Radio One, Inc – Charlotte and Bank of America.

Currently Audra is launching Urban Miss; a new brand and social networking “must go to” destination which offers African American “tween” girls (9-13 years) the opportunity to safely socialize and connect globally.

Audra holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree from historical Bennett College for Women and a MBA from the University of Phoenix.
